Ronnie James Dio Remembered

Rock vocal legend Ronnie James Dio passed away this week from stomach cancer.

Ronnie was widely regarded as one of the very best hard rock vocalists of all time. He first had success in the 60's with his "doo wop" style bands Ronnie Dio and the Prophets, and Ronnie and the Red Caps (do a search on Youtube, you won't believe your ears!), then as a hard rock singer as a member of Rainbow, then as Ozzy's replacement in Black Sabbath, recording what many regard as Black Sabbath's best albums- "Heaven and Hell" and "Mob Rules". He then went on to a very successful solo career with his band Dio, with such hard rocking hits as "Rainbow In The Dark" and "Last In Line". Most recently he has been successfully touring the world with his Black Sabbath band mates calling the band "Heaven and Hell", to differentiate it from the Ozzy Osbourne headed version of Black Sabbath that has toured in recent years.

One thing you always hear about Ronnie that his friends and people who have met him say, is that he was such a nice, gracious and polite guy.

Dio can be credited with single handedly popularizing the "devil's horns" hand gesture at rock concerts, etc. Dio says that his grandmother used to make the hand gesture to ward off the evil eye, which is very common among superstitious Southern Italians. The "horns," or "Corna," themselves are used both to scare away and give someone the "Malocchio" (the Evil Eye).
Nowadays the hand gesture has just come to mean something like "you rock" or "rock on" at virtually any rock concert you may attend these days. I've even seen photos of Miley Cyrus doing it!

There will be a Public Memorial Service for Ronnie James Dio on Sunday, May 30th at 2:00 PM at The Hall Of Liberty located at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills, 6300 Forest Lawn Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90068.

Things Looking Much Better For Rocker Bret Michaels.

Things are looking much better for Poison frontman and TV Star Bret Michaels. Bret is now out of the hospital and his doctors are saying he will make a full recovery from his brain hemmorhage. Unbelievalbly, he is scheduled to resume his Roses and Thorns concert tour with his solo band BMB on May 26th!

Bret Michaels- Dr.'s Hopeful of Full Recovery! Please Send Your Prayers and Positive Thoughts!

As many of you may know, Bret Michaels the singer for rock super-group Poison and star of such TV shows as Celebrity Apprentice and Rock of Love recently suffered some serious medical problems. First he had to get an emergency appendectomy, then a short time later he suffered a brain hemorrhage and has been in the hospital in critical condition. Even though doctors are now hopeful for a full recovery, and Bret is even scheduling concert tour dates for the end of this month, Bret really needs your positive vibes and prayers! He's not out of the woods yet.

Bret is at the peak of his fame right now, he's starring on Celebrity Apprentice, is scheduled to tour with with Lynyrd Skynyrd with his solo band this summer, and is planning on a huge Poison 25th anniversary tour next year. So this couldn't have happened at a worse time for Bret. And it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. I've met Bret and seen him perform many times, and he was the most gracious and cool guy.

If one follows Bret's career you might say that Bret is prone to accidents and illness. He seems to have a lot of ups and downs in life. Well, what makes a person more prone to illness, accidents, and general ups and downs in life? I can't say for sure why Bret's life seems that way, but there is some good info on the Scientology Handbook website about why some people have ups and downs in life and are more prone to illness and accidents, and how one can avoid that condition. Sweden Rock Festival 2010! They Sure Know How to Rock in Sweden!

The Sweden Rock Festival 2010 is sure to be one of the best Sweden Rock Festivals ever! And I would say very probably one of the best music festivals period, anywhere! What a line up!! The SRF is one of few large festivals that showcases all hard rocking bands. Everything from heavy metal to pop-rock like Rick Springfield. Many of the best hard rocking bands of all time will be appearing at this year's Rock Fest.

First of all, Aerosmith is headlining this year's SRF! Guns N' Roses will be there too. And several of the other bands just happen to be many of my personal favorites! Such as: Cinderella, Billy Idol, Ratt, Winger, and even hilarious comedy-rockers Steel Panther!

Also performing are several other artists I haven't heard from in a while like: Rick Springfield, Aldo Nova, Y&T, Nazareth, Michael Monroe, Saga, and Fates Warning.


Sweden Rock Festival performers from past years included: Twisted Sister, Alice Cooper, Journey, Def Leppard, Poison, Lita Ford, Scorpions, REO Speedwagon, Yes, and zillions more.

American Skiers Clean Up at 2010 Olympics!

American skiers really cleaned up at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver!

Their medals represent the highest total for U.S. skiers at any Olympics, and twice as many as any other country collected over the past two weeks.

Amongst the winners in Alpine Skiing are:

Bode Miller-a Gold, a Silver, and a Bronze! Bode is now the most decorated American Alpine skier in History!

Lindsey Vonn- a Gold, and a Bronze!

And Julia Mancuso- two Silvers!

After winning gold at the 2006 Games , Mancuso is now the only American woman to win three Olympic skiing medals!

I must give a shout out to the Freestyle skiers who really kicked butt, and whom I really love to watch! In Freestyle, Jaret Peterson won a Silver, Byron Wilson won a Bronze, Hannah Kearney won a Gold, and Shannon Bahrke won a Bronze.

The United States Olympic team also made history in this 21st Winter Olympic games, taking home 37 medals! This total number of medals surpasses those won by the U.S. in previous Winter Olympic games.!

The Knack- One of The Most Rocking and Underrated Bands!

The Knack has always been one of my all time favorite bands. Their biggest album "Get The Knack" has sold over 6 million copies so far, and is a fantastic album from start to finish! It's just loaded with fun catchy power-pop rockers, backed by great musicianship. They are one of the tightest rock bands ever.

Unfortunately, Doug Fieger, leader of The Knack who sang on the 1979 hit "My Sharona," and all their other songs died of cancer this past Sunday. He was 57. I was fortunate enough to meet Doug after one of their concerts a couple years ago, the band sounded fantastic, and he couldn't have been a nicer guy!

Ringo Starr Gets Star on Hollywood Walk of Fame!

I was fortunate enough to be at Ringo Starr's Hollywood Walk of Fame induction ceremony where Ringo got his own star! It was a really great star studded affair. Thousands of fans showed up, along with a media circus outside the Capitol Records building in Hollywood where the it was held.

Judas Priest and AC/DC Win Their First Grammy Awards- FINALLY!

Rob Halford and Scott Travis of Judas Priest.

Judas Priest won the Grammy for Best Metal Performance for "Dissident Aggressor" from their album "A Touch of Evil Live". This is Judas Priest's 5th Grammy nomination.

The Grammy for best hard rock performance went to AC/DC for "War Machine" from "Black Ice".

It's the first Grammy win for both bands. And the 5th nomination for Priest. It's about time they've been recognized! It seems the Grammy's are finally getting more and more with it. This year's performances on the awards show were some of the best ever! Some of the highlights were Lady Gaga and Elton John performing together, Pink, Beyonce, and Bon Jovi with Sugarland's Jennifer Nettles.
